Deanna shows up and gives it her all! We so appreciate her embracing Zoom life, team teaching, being willing to handle all the tech responsibilities on her own at 5:30 am, while still offering encouragement to all, and more.
Q: What do you love most about AUXO Fitness?
A: It’s almost impossible for me to pick just one thing that I love about AUXO. The workouts are on fire! There are so many modifications that I can choose day by day (or even moment by moment during a class) how difficult I want to make a particular move. Especially now when our schedules have been upended and our bodies are moving differently, I’m listening to my body more and need those modifications more often. Regardless, I always leave class feeling accomplished and knowing that I pushed myself as hard as I needed that day.
Q: What advice would you give someone who struggles with consistency?
A: I would recommend that they try to create a schedule for themselves to take class. Choose the days and times when you’re most likely to be able to make it to class. Then maybe also have a backup for each day because we all know there are just going to be days when something comes up. Also, sometimes I focus on just putting on my workout clothes and I try not to worry about the energy that I’ll need for class. Once I have my workout attire on, I’m much more likely to get to class. As soon as I’m there, I know I’m where I need to be and, of course, when class is over I’m SO glad I went!
Q: What goal(s) are you currently working towards?
A: I have a few goals actually. After having our third daughter, Mollie, who is now 17 months, I’m still working on regaining some strength, especially in my core – unsurprisingly. I still drop down to my knees for some of the longer planks as I regain that endurance. I know I can do it and am trying to be patient with my body. The goal I’m more excited about, though, is that I’m getting close to taking 750 classes! I’m hoping that I’ll be able to accomplish that by the end of 2020, even with all the challenges that Covid-19 is causing. That class will be a party for sure!
Q: How do you stay motivated (especially during this difficult time)?
A: It’s really easy for me to become overwhelmed quickly by everything going on. The house, kids, work, spouse, the uncertainty and scariness of it all – it’s intense! If I notice my mind is starting to spiral down that black hole, I have to work hard to stop what I’m doing, close my eyes, take a few slow, deep breaths, and calm my mind. I try to think of something that makes me happy – friends, family, going to the springs, a fun trip – anything to derail the anxious thoughts and help me recenter. I also have taken some solo walks and drives. We’re spending so much more time together, which definitely has its benefits, but it’s nice to be able to escape, even if it’s just for 5-10 minutes.
Q: Which of AUXO’s Community Culture values most resonates with you, and why?
A: My favorite AUXO value is authenticity. The people at AUXO are for real! They are genuinely glad you walked in the door and are choosing to spend your time there. Each person is there to support you in your goals – whatever they may be. They want you to feel welcome, encouraged, challenged, accepted. They’re ready to help you unwind and find calm, or push yourself and relieve some stress. It’s all about you!
