This month, we are shining the spotlight on our BarreTender, Alicia! She has taken over 250 classes at AUXO Fitness since starting with us in August 2015, and has taught over 400 classes (serving over 2448 clients!). Get to know Alicia better below!
One woman who inspires me is: My Grandma. She was the oldest of thirteen children! My great grandfather was a horrible gambler, he spent all his earnings on gambling. My grandma worked and cared for her brothers and sisters. When food was brought in, it was because of my grandma. When electricity was brought into the house, it was because of my grandma. Medicine, doctor appointments, plumbing, and any repairs to the house…You guessed it, grandma took care of it! Then she met my grandpa and had my father. When my grandma got married, they moved to Florida. Once my great grandfather became ill, my grandma asked them to move to their house. She took care of him until he passed, then did the same for my great grandma. Eventually, she became the one whom everyone went to as they became ill. She out-lived most of her siblings. She never complained and continued to share her small means with loved ones. When I was a teenager, I moved to Florida with them. She gave me love like I never knew before, strength to become whomever I wanted to be! Knowing she had my back, no matter what kind of situation I was in, allowed me to grow and find love in my heart to help others. I know I will never be like her, but every day I include her standards into my life’s purpose. Thank you, Grandma!
My weirdest phobia is: I have nightmares about the sound system. Ever since I started teaching 36 years ago! I have these reoccurring dreams where all sorts of things go wrong with the music. It’s horrible! That’s why I bring my own music and a backup just in case!
My favorite song to work out to is: “It’s Raining Men.” I love the pace of the music, it just makes me want to move!
One thing I can’t stop buying at AUXO is: AUXO shirts! They are so soft with encouraging words. They are definitely my favorite!
A place I would love to visit is: Iceland! From what I’ve read, I want to visit waterfalls, hot springs, climb mountains, and of course, see the Aurora Borealis!
My favorite Barre move is: Standing work! Why? Because it’s the hardest for everyone. Which in my head, means we need to do it! We all enjoy participating in activities we’re good at. The body is different, it needs and craves challenge. If we only do things we’re good at then are we challenging our brains and bodies? Wouldn’t that be wasting time to only do things we’re good at?
If I could have one superpower, it would be: Time travel. I would be able to change my mistakes, go into history and see it first-hand, and of course, see the future. So much to see, so many places and people to meet, and being able to time travel, could I avoid my own death?
When I need to de-stress, I: Work out of course! Sometimes it’s at AUXO, but my most favorite place to destress is in my yard. I really enjoy being outside, helping my plants, listening to the birds, and feeling the breeze. 🙂
My favorite aspect of AUXO is: Family. I know that no matter who walks through the door, they are searching for peace, acceptance, kindness, and safety. AUXO is a safe place for the heart and soul. Here we are able to be ourselves, at our best. No judgment, no pointed fingers wagging, no harsh words. Just love and kindness!
