Jen has taken close to 200 classes since joining AUXO in October 2017, consistently making Barre, BodyFlow, and Barrebata a part of her routine, even pulling 3-a-day workouts on the weekends. With this kind of commitment to her health and wellness, our team couldn’t help but be impressed with her! Get to know more about Jen below!
Q: Where are you from, and how long have you been in Gainesville?
A: I have been in Gainesville since I was 5 years old, so pretty much all my life! I was born in Panama City, FL, but I think it’s safe to say I’m from Gainesville.
Q: What’s your favorite Barre/AUXO-themed shirt?
A: “Saturday’s are for Barre and Gator football”!
Q: Tell us something fun about yourself/what you do when you’re not at AUXO?
A: When I’m not at AUXO I enjoy playing Pokémon Go, a game you can play outdoors on your phone and it gets me out of the house with friends! We usually journey on long nature walks, catching all kinds of creatures. I also enjoy my CrossFit gym, running, kayaking, eating sushi, volunteering for the Junior League of Gainesville, attending Gator events, and going to plays and art shows!
Q: Was your first Barre class what you expected? Why or why not?
A: No, not at all! I got quite nauseous and had to excuse myself. I was so new that I didn’t know where the bathroom was. I remember Brinn giving me some juice and got me feeling better. I was so not prepared, and I hadn’t exercised in months. But I still came back for more!
Q: Why did you decide to continue with AUXO Fitness after your free week by investing in an unlimited membership?
A: First off, I had no idea what awesomeness was in store for me after I made the decision to become a Club AUXO member! Also, I didn’t have any regular exercise routine. I could see myself being happy here and felt the love and support from day one! I wanted to 100% face the challenges of barre, push myself out of my comfort zone, try new things, and meet ladies like myself who enjoy barre and living life!
Q: What makes this workout different from other exercises you have experienced?
A: I feel empowered and inspired! It’s more than just the workout. I feel competitive and I like the push and extra challenges barre brings and I know if I’m having an off day, it’s OK! AUXO understand us and our needs! I know I can do things at my own pace and don’t feel any pressure to be exactly like my neighbor. One day may be better than the other. Also, it is ok to wiggle and wobble in Bodyflow!
Q: What is your favorite Barre/Bodyflow move? Why?
A: I may be crazy, but I like it when we pick up the tempo and do a lunge, flat back chair, lunge combination using the block, minus the holds! I like this move because I feel strong and I want to see if I can make it through the entire sequence!!!
Q: What results have you noticed after doing Barre/BodyFlow consistently?
A: My balance! I feel like I could do warrior III for days! My push up and tricep form has improved. I can also squat a little bit lower, and releve a bit little higher at the barre!
Q: Have you experienced any benefits from Barre that have affected you not just physically, but mentally, too?
A: Yes, very much so! Barre is a great release of energy and any mental stress. I believe you have to allow yourself to let everything go at the door. For those like me, allow yourself to step out of your comfort zone, knowing you are going to accomplish great things in this class and after you leave! You definitely walk out the door more confident with a positive attitude ready to conquer the day, the week, the whatever!
Q: What keeps you motivated to continue coming to Barre?
A: I’d have to say the amazing staff and ladies who are in the classes! There are always new happenings, celebrations, donation-based classes, and events at AUXO and I definitely don’t want to miss out!
Q: Which of AUXO’s Core Values most resonates with you and why? Is there one that has most empowered you to grow this year?
A: Authenticity rings true to me the most because AUXO is a non-intimidating, warm welcoming environment. You feel safe and secure from the get-go. The moves may be intimidating at first and wearing tight clothing around strangers can be too, but honestly, no one is judging you. Everyone is praising you for being there that day! All those silly thoughts you can throw away! I feel I can be 100% me, I makes mistakes, and I’m not perfect, but the AUXO team makes me feel darn close!
Q: Is there anything you would like to share with potential new clients about your experience at AUXO Fitness? Any helpful tips for those who are considering trying Barre, but are nervous?
A: For new clients, be prepared for many intense isometric challenges, much laughter, focus, drive, sweat, and fun! I absolutely recommend trying as many different kinds of classes in your free week! Take it slow and ask questions. Try different barre instructors, different times of the day and week. You’ll love them all! Find a routine that works for YOU! Participate in AUXO’s many challenges and events in the studio or in the community, especially the retreats, donation-based classes, barre to brunch, and body Flow releases!
