Erica has taken over 630 classes at AUXO since starting with us in June 2015, and we are incredibly proud of her! In addition to Barre classes, Erica really enjoys our BarreBata, BarreSculpt, and BodyFlow offerings. She also happens to have a very adorable workout buddy at home. The AUXO team is incredibly grateful for Erica’s continued support and involvement in our community! Despite being a busy Kindergarten teacher with a little one of her own, she consistently takes advantage of our virtual classes, working hard and setting a good example for her daughter. We love seeing their smiles on-screen! Learn more about our March Barre Star with this month’s Q&A:
Q: What do you love most about AUXO Fitness?
A: I love how there are so many different formats, instructors, and special classes to keep workouts varied and interesting. I think I have tried pretty much all of them: from Barre, BarreBata, Body Sculpt, BodyFlow, Bring a Boy, Mommy and Me, Cardio Kickboxing, Ballet, Hip Hop, Burlesque, Yoga, Pilates, and more. All the different classes and formats are fun and unique in their own way and I’ve enjoyed all of them. I’ve always had dance in my life in some form (classes and recitals as a child, dance team in high school and college, and I taught a dance fitness class for many years) so I enjoy the dance aspect and the music of barre classes as well.
Q: What advice would you give someone who struggles with consistency?
A: Being a Kindergarten teacher and having a Kindergartener of my own, I have a very busy schedule so I schedule all my classes for the upcoming week ahead of time. Once I’m signed up for a class then I make sure to find the time to do it, even if it’s been a super tiring or busy day. Class always helps me feel re-energized.
Q: What goal(s) are you currently working toward?
A: I continue to love to try new classes and different formats. The great thing about barre is that there are always ways to adapt the workout and make moves harder (or easier) when you need to so you can continue to challenge yourself. I try to take class at least 3 or 4 times a week. I have a bad back and I find that doing barre on a regular basis really helps my back feel better, especially if I’ve been sitting all day working on the computer.
Q: How do you stay motivated (especially during this difficult time) and with your busy work schedule?
A: This year has been very interesting because I taught virtual Kindergarten for the first half of the school year, and now I’m teaching hyflex Kindergarten where I teach students both in person and online at the same time. Therefore, at the end of a busy day of teaching it is nice to have some time to myself to take class. Occasionally my daughter will join in and take class with me, but usually if she sees me on Zoom she assumes I’m in a “meeting” and is pretty good about not disturbing me.
Q: Which of AUXO’s ‘Community Culture’ Values most resonates with you?
A: I think the value of empowerment is so important. It is great to have so much encouragement from everyone at the studio whether it’s for meeting the goals of a challenge, celebrating a milestone, or simply just words of praise and motivation to keep going and do our best in class.
