Meet our June Barre Stars, Jen and Monique!
Combined, #BarreBesties Jen & Monique have taken over 130 classes since starting with AUXO Fitness in February, including several of our formats, such as: Barre, Barre-bata, Restorative Rolling, and BodyFlow. They’ve participated (and rocked) our studio challenges and contests and have become valued members of our Barre Family! They come together, they come alone, they come at 5:30am , 7:30pm, weekends, weekdays, and they always come with a great attitude and desire to work hard and have fun!
1) Where are you from, and how long have you been in Gainesville?
Jen: I’m originally from Omaha, Nebraska and have been in Gainesville since October of 2015.
Monique: I was born in Fort Lauderdale, lived in Fort Myers for 8 years, and I have been in Gainesville for about 5 years.
2) What’s your favorite Barre-themed shirt?
Jen: “Namaste in bed with my dog!”
Monique: It’s a toss up between “Will Barre for Wine” and “Will Tuck for Tacos.”
3) Tell us something fun about yourself.
Jen: When not at Barre (or work), I’m out exploring the beautiful state parks and everything Florida has to offer with my husband Bill and husky dog Darby. We love discovering fun new places to visit.
Monique: When I am not working or at Barre, I enjoy kayaking/canoeing, visiting nature preserves and parks, and spending time with my boyfriend, family, friends, and my doggies.
4) Was your first Barre class what you expected? Why or why not?
Jen: Yes and no. I had researched what Barre was before I started, but what I didn’t expect was the incredibly supportive atmosphere and to feel so welcomed.
Monique: I was not sure what to expect at my first Barre class, but I loved it! Everyone was friendly, welcoming, and upbeat. I immediately encouraged some friends (including Jen J) to join me. I was hooked right away!
5) Why did you decide to continue with AUXO Fitness after your free week by investing in an unlimited membership?
Jen: I really enjoyed the workout. The conditioning moves and stretching were similar to when I did gymnastics, so it was nice to revisit those.
Monique: I finally found a class that challenged me and left me wanting more! The barretenders were always supportive, so even after a difficult class, I never felt discouraged.
6) What makes this workout different from other exercises you have experienced?
Jen: I was never one for group workouts, so that part is different. I usually bike or swim, but the Barre moves made me feel more elegant.
Monique: Throughout the class, we work out every part of our bodies. A lot of the moves are similar, but the series of moves is different for each class.
7) What is your favorite Barre move so far? Why?
Jen: Abs under the Barre. The challenge of lifting both legs together is fun for me.
Monique: Rocking chair is my favorite move so far. The move makes you work your thighs, calves, arms, and buns at the same time. Also, it’s kind of fun. 🙂
8) What results have you noticed after doing Barre consistently?
Jen: I have defined calf muscles again! The rest of me is also feeling more toned and less “fluffy.”
Monique: I have noticed that I feel stronger, happier, and more energized after doing Barre consistently.
9) Have you experienced any benefits from Barre that have affected you not just physically, but mentally, too?
Jen: Definitely. Exercise is a mood booster anyways, but the addition of such a warm place where everyone is rooting for everyone else to succeed has made me more positive and cheerful.
Monique: In addition to improving my mood, I have noticed that I will try to push myself further in activities outside of Barre.
10) What keeps you motivated to continue coming to Barre so consistently?
Jen: The results that I’ve been seeing (and the opportunity to wear all of those cute Barre clothes, haha).
Monique: The classes are always challenging and fun. New moves and music are added often, so I never get tired of doing the same class over and over. Plus, I know I will feel better, physically and mentally, after I take a class.
11) Is there anything you would like to share with potential new clients about your experience at Barre Forte?
Jen: Keep at it! You’ll be apprehensive at first and definitely sore, but that will all fade and the results will be worth it.
Monique: AUXO Fitness makes you feel empowered, strong, and beautiful. Before going to Barre, I wanted to join a workout class for a long time, but I was always too nervous to go because I didn’t want to be the new person who didn’t know how to do anything. I had never heard about AUXO Fitness until a friend at work asked me if I wanted to go. I am so glad I did! As soon as I arrived, I was welcomed by friendly faces. Throughout the Barre class, the barretender was encouraging. I never felt nervous during class, even though I was a little lost at first. As the weeks went by, and I attended more classes, my moves and posture improved. Now, I feel great after every class!
