Meet our June Barre Stars, Diana and Valerie! They have each taken over 65 classes since starting at AUXO in January. Right away, these barre besties jumped into a fitness routine, coming to class together most mornings. Their positive attitudes are nothing short of infectious, and we can’t wait for you to learn more about them!
Where are you from, and how long have you been in Gainesville?
Valerie: I am a lifelong Alachua County resident. Born and raised in Gainesville!
Diana: Born and raised in Gainesville, I’ve lived here my whole life!
What’s your favorite Barre/AUXO-themed shirt?
Valerie: My favorite Barre themed shirt is, “Barre more bark less”. Animals + Barre = Happiness
Diana: I have a shirt that says “resting Barre face,” and I love my AUXO sweatshirt, so soft and comfy!
Tell us something fun about yourself/what you do when you’re not at AUXO?
Valerie: In my spare time I love to obsess over Game of Thrones. I have recently started reading the books and they are such a great read!
Diana: My down time is spent going to the beach with my family, gator games, reading a good book in the sun, and doing family events!
Q: Was your first Barre class what you expected? Why or why not? A
Valerie: My first barre class was not what I was expecting! I thought it would be more like ballet, but it really surpassed my expectations!
Diana: No, I had no idea exactly what Barre was. I was looking for something I could do for myself, outside the home, that wasn’t a gym. My friend and I spoke about maybe joining something and came across AUXO’s page. We signed up for the free week and we’ve continued every day and love it!
Q: Why did you decide to continue with AUXO Fitness after your free week by investing in an unlimited membership?
Valerie: I decided to continue with barre because it was a great workout, and I got to do it with my barre bestie, Diana!
Diana: I realized how much more I get out of the class vs a gym. I also like the atmosphere here. Very positive and encouraging from the instructors and the people you meet in the classroom. It’s like no other place!
Q: What makes this workout different from other exercises you have experienced?
Valerie: Barre is so different from any other workout I’ve done in the past because it is truly unique in the way it targets your muscles with small, isolated movements, unlike other workouts. The smaller the movement, the greater the results!
Diana: I don’t like intimidating equipment and big crowds. Barre works so much more than I realized it would. A smaller group setting, motivating music, encouraging instructors, and seeing results is worth coming back for! You leave feeling amazing and can tackle your day!
Q: What is your favorite Barre move? Why?
Valerie: My favorite barre move is the pretzel because it is the most challenging!
Diana: That’s hard; they’re all good. Tucking! Being pushed to your limit and shaking is worth it because I know I’m doing something right. The stretches that come after like child pose is what I look forward to!
Q: What results have you noticed after doing Barre consistently?
Valerie: After consistently doing barre, I have noticed a considerable change in the overall tone and shape of my body. it’s amazing how much my body has changed!
Diana: Wow, after going 4 days a week for 4 months, I’ve noticed a change in my arms, core, triceps, and I have more energy!
Q: Have you experienced any benefits from Barre that have affected you not just physically, but mentally, too?
Valerie: Barre has been my stress release and place where I can go to get refreshed mentally and physically!
Diana: Absolutely! I feel more positive, motivated and relaxed! Going to class several times a week helps with having less stress in my busy life.
Q: What keeps you motivated to continue coming to Barre?
Valerie: I love coming to barre for the mental, physical, and social benefits I receive!
Diana: Being with my bestie and seeing results! Also getting the welcoming smile when they say your name coming in the door and when you walk out leaving you with positive encouragement.
Q: Which of AUXO’s Core Values most resonates with you and why? Is there one that has most empowered you to grow this year?
Valerie: The Auxo core value that resonates most with me is personal transformation! Barre has transformed me, inside and out! Before barre I had lost myself because I spent all of my time putting everyone else first. When I started consistently coming to barre, not only did I see the physical changes, but the changes within myself. I began to realize that I deserved to give myself just as much love and attention as I was giving to everyone else!
Diana: Authenticity. AUXO is not intimidating to me like most places. They are here to help and encourage you in a positive way. You leave feeling you’ve known them forever!
Q: Is there anything you would like to share with potential new clients about your experience at AUXO Fitness? Any helpful tips for those who are considering trying Barre, but are nervous?
Valerie: To anyone who is thinking about trying barre but may be nervous, I would tell you not to let fear of the unknown stop you from trying something that is amazing. Going to barre is one of the best things I have ever done for myself. From the workouts, to the great community of women who genuinely care about each other, barre at AUXO is everything and more!
Diana: I was nervous, it was all new to me! The ladies in class and the instructors were welcoming and positive, you just forget about everything. I have learned more about myself and have stepped out of my comfort zone more by being here these short few months. I love coming and so would anyone else once they’ve tried it.
