The whole AUXO team is talking about these two! Barb & Paul make it a priority to regularly show up for Zoom classes. They have recently joined us for Pilates in the Park, and generously donated to our BLM Barre Benefit. They’re also parents to our recently featured VIPets: Fraces & Reba. Barb and Paul have been working hard from home, just like they do in the studio. Because of their positive attitude, dedication, and overall amazingness, we have voted them as our July Barre Star Duo!
Paul has taken over 75 classes and Barb has more than 300 classes with us at AUXO – WOW! We are incredibly proud of them both! Read on to learn more about them!
Q: What do you love most about AUXO Fitness?
A: We love the people and the support to be consistent. There is a genuine desire at AUXO for everyone, regardless of age and fitness level, to safely optimize their workout to get real results. (Barb has come back after double knee replacements and Paul lost 20 pounds during the quarantine!)
Q: What advice would you give someone who struggles with consistency?
A: Our biggest advantage is working out together. On mornings that either of us might take a pass we encourage the other to just “show up.” Before we know it we have finished another great workout. Aside from that, doing a regular routine with a particular class that we’ve “reserved” builds accountability. You feel like you’ve been missed if you are not there. (The Zoom offerings make “showing up” easy.)
Q: What goal(s) are you currently working toward?
A: We want to keep up with our 7 grandchildren. Currently 3-year-old Rilla is staying with us. We go for walks, swimming and swing for hours on the play-set. It’s our hope to be willing and able for such antics for years to come. AUXO is helping with that: working us to muscle strengthening fatigue (we usually feel Emma’s “beautiful 2’s!” the next day) but without the injuries (e.g. lower back strain or injured knee joints).
Q: How do you stay motivated (especially during this difficult time)?
A: Anxiety over quarantine/social-distancing, the state of the country and not having warm family hugs can be oppressive but we count our blessings, connect virtually with our children and our church, and make fitness (our 9:30 Zoom hours with AUXO) a priority. We focus on what is within our ability and entrust to God the rest.
Q: Which of AUXO’s ‘Community Culture’ Values most resonates with you?
A: Of the 5 values (strength, confidence, friendships, community, and family) we think friendships are what set AUXO apart. Of course fitness gyms are about being stronger, that’s what brings us. But what grew Barb’s tentative first few visits into a real commitment and encouraged Paul to join her are the friends that we’ve found. There are just genuinely good people at AUXO and its been a joy to know them.
