Meet our February Barre Star, Sarah! She has been taking Barre, Pilates, Yoga, and BodyFlow classes consistently since February 2017, and we love that she has brought family members and new clients to the studio, in addition to being instrumental in helping with our Retreats and helping us create a culture of caring! With close to 400 classes under her belt, we couldn’t be more excited to announce that Sarah has been voted as our February Barre Star! Way to go!
We are continuously impressed with Sarah’s hard work, dedication, and consistency, and we are so excited to see her continue to thrive at AUXO Fitness! Read Sarah’s Q&A below to learn more about her and her fitness journey.
Q: Where are you from, and how long have you been in Gainesville?
A: I was born in Honolulu Hawaii and raised in Puerto Rico and Miami FL. I have lived in Alachua since 2004!
Q: What’s your favorite Barre-themed shirt?
A: “I Left it at the Barre”.
Q: Tell us something fun about yourself/what you do when you’re not at AUXO?
A: I love beautiful things. I’m a trained woodworker with my own woodworking shop where I have been designing and making furniture for years. I collect beautiful plants; my home and property are surrounded by gardens. I also enjoy creating jewelry and redesigning clothing!
Q: Was your first Barre class what you expected? Why or why not?
A: I didn’t know what to expect before my first Barre class. I hadn’t worked out for a couple of years and was challenged by the unfamiliar exercises. Fortunately, the dynamic instructors, the upbeat music, and the positive energy from the women surrounding me motivated me to keep going!
Q: Why did you decide to continue with AUXO Fitness after your free week by investing in an unlimited membership?
A: I quickly realized that I felt better physically, mentally, socially, and spiritually as I incorporated more Barre classes into my schedule. I chose the unlimited membership because I knew to get in my best shape, I was going to need 4-5 classes a week! This has motivated me to double up on classes and to organize my schedule around exercise. Also, I’m thrifty and feel like I get a better deal with the Club AUXO Membership!
Q: What makes this workout different from other exercises you have experienced?
A: The Barre workouts feel appropriate to where I’m at physically, not too stressful on the mind/body connection. I can push it to my limit and feel like I am completely exercising and toning the target muscle groups!
Q: What is your favorite Barre move? Why?
A: The Barre move that never fails to make me smile is when we stand with our feet together, up on tippy toes, arms in a graceful overhead position, and are encouraged to close our eyes for a quick moment…. I laugh because I can’t do it with my eyes closed!
Q: What results have you noticed after doing Barre/BodyFlow/Pilates/Yoga consistently?
A: My posture, body shape, and self-awareness have improved from practicing the variety of classes offered!
Q: Have you experienced any benefits from AUXO that have affected you not just physically, but mentally, too?
A: I feel more personally fulfilled since I joined AUXO. The camaraderie and social interaction I experience as soon as I walk through the door elevates my spirits and gives me a sense of belonging. My life, too busy at times, doesn’t afford enough time to socialize, laugh and breath. I get this at AUXO!
Q: What keeps you motivated to continue coming to AUXO?
A: I continue my practice because it feels good and I don’t want to lose my edge.
Q: Is there anything you would like to share with potential new clients about your experience at AUXO Fitness? Any helpful tips for those who are considering trying Barre, but are nervous?
A: Exercise is FUNDAMENTAL to a healthy, balanced life. Don’t be intimidated to try a new form of fitness training. Try the week free, then sign up and attend (to the best of your ability) the 30 day offer! The initial commitment can be challenging but I have yet to meet any one that doesn’t agree that we are all better because of Barre.
Q: Which of AUXO Fitness’s Core Values most resonates with you and your experience in the studio?
A: “AUTHENTICITY”. An enjoyable part of going to classes at AUXO is the happy and welcoming atmosphere that hugs me when I walk through the door. Brinn and Alix always offer up a warm and personal greeting. I have created friendships with some pretty cool ladies and I can always count on seeing them in class or elsewhere in the community!
