Lisa has taken close to 500 classes at AUXO since starting with us in May 2017, and we are beyond grateful for her continued support and involvement! She loves both the Barre and BarreSculpt formats, and we appreciate that she has been taking advantage of our virtual offerings so consistently. Lisa shows up and works hard with a positive attitude, and we love seeing her beaming smile on Zoom! Learn more about our February Barre Star with this month’s Q&A:
Q: What do you love most about AUXO Fitness?
A: There are two aspects that I love about Auxo: the people and the workout.
I’ve been impressed with and inspired by the AUXO teachers and my fellow classmates. AUXO has really created a joyful community that encourages and supports one another. All the teachers and staff are so gracious, caring, and positive. For a shy and introverted person like me, AUXO is a no-pressure, relaxed environment where everyone is welcome. I love that AUXO is not just a place for exercise classes. AUXO sets up social activities and events with other local businesses that reinforces the AUXO principles of building community.
The workout is so fun and effective. It challenges my body and mind. I love that the Barre classes work through each muscle group. After each class, I feel like my mind is calmer, my energy is higher, and all parts of my body have been conditioned. I’ve always loved ballet, yoga and pilates, and the AUXO classes are the perfect combination of all. I’ve seen major results in terms of strengthened and lengthened muscles and increased flexibility. (Also, not to mention, a tighter butt!)
Q: What advice would you give someone who struggles with consistency?
A: I’m definitely a person that is not always motivated to exercise and I’m easily distracted. When I reached middle age, I could feel my body getting stiffer. In the past, I would find any excuse not to work out, but now I look forward to taking a Barre class every day. With the AUXO community, I don’t feel like I’m doing this on my own, so making the effort and maintaining consistency are much easier. It really helps me that in Barre, the movements exercise specific muscle groups, so as a result, I’m concentrating on the target muscle. The music is energizing and the coordination of movements with the rhythm of the music keeps me focused and it also makes the workout go by fast.
Q: What goal(s) are you currently working toward?
A: The primary goals I’m working on are controlling stress and maintaining a work-life balance. I tend to get too wrapped up in work responsibilities that I let everything else slide. Finding a workout that I love has been key. I like that when I take an AUXO class, I’m dedicating time for myself and for what my body and mind needs. In a barre class, all my restless energy gets channeled. It helps me slow down and refocus my attention back on my health and wellness.
Q: How do you stay motivated (especially during this difficult time) and with your busy work schedule (also, do you mind sharing your work title)?
A: I’m an adjunct professor at University of Florida School of Architecture and teaching in a creative field and a laboratory environment has been challenging to do through Zoom. So much of my work with architectural design students requires hands-on one-on-one interaction. Like everyone during this pandemic, I’m mainly trying to figure out how to adjust and operate working at a distance. Since I’m spending so much time sitting in front of a computer screen, I’ve become even more motivated to get up and move around. I’m really grateful that AUXO set up virtual and on-demand classes so that we all have options to maintain our barre practice while also staying safe and healthy.
Q: Which of AUXO’s ‘Community Culture’ Values most resonates with you?
A: All the Community Culture principles advocated by AUXO are positive and true, so the value of ‘Authenticity’ resonates the most for me. AUXO genuinely cultivates community within and beyond the studio doors and values each individual. Everyone is warmly welcomed, immediately recognized by name, and treated with respect. Being part of the AUXO community, I’m not anonymous like I would be at a big gym. The AUXO staff genuinely believes in and emphasizes each person’s strength, beauty, and growth. AUXO is an environment that promotes love and acceptance of each other and of our self.
