Meet our December Barre Stars, Angie & Allison! They have been taking Barre classes consistently since February, and recently celebrated their 100th class together! We couldn’t be more thrilled to announce that Angie & Allison have been unanimously selected as our December Barre Stars! We are so excited to see our mother-daughter duo continue to thrive at AUXO Fitness! Read Angie & Allison’s Q&A below to learn more about them.
Q: Where are you from, and how long have you been in Gainesville?
Angie: I’m from Concord, North Carolina and I moved to Gainesville 1 year ago.
Allison: I am from Charlotte, North Carolina and I have lived here for a year and a half. I moved to Gainesville to start my career as a Perfusionist at Shands.
Q: What’s your favorite Barre-themed shirt?
Angie: My 100 Class shirt of course! I couldn’t wait to get the shirt!
Allison: My favorite Barre themed shirt is my “Meet Me at the Barre” tank.
Q: Tell us something fun about yourself/what you do when you’re not at AUXO?
Angie: Sewing scrub hats for my daughter Allison!
Allison: When I am not at Barre, I am either at the hospital working or at home with my little ball of fur Milo.
Q: Was your first Barre class what you expected? Why or why not?
Angie: During my first barre class I felt really out of shape. I had no balance, I had no idea what to expect but I knew Allison came home after her first class with her leg muscles shaking!
Allison: My first barre class was with Brinn and I was hoping to take full advantage of my free week trial, but I could barely walk 4 days after her class. I signed up for a membership the next week and have been coming ever since!
Q: Why did you decide to continue with AUXO Fitness after your free week by investing in an unlimited membership?
Angie: I love the BarreTenders’ encouragement and this out-of-shape granny needed it!
Allison: I decided to sign up for a yearlong membership with AUXO, because it’s the only way I will work out! I do not enjoy going to the gym and spending an hour at AUXO flies by, and I get a good workout in. The instructors constantly challenge everyone and provide a ton of options for a more advanced workout throughout class.
Q: What makes this workout different from other exercises you have experienced?
Angie: The attention that the BarreTenders provide is awesome! If you needed help grasping a move they are there to demonstrate!
Allison: I really enjoy the awesome instructors at AUXO. They want to get to know everyone and always aim to keep class fun and upbeat.
Q: What is your favorite Barre move?
Angie: Tucking of course!
Allison: My favorite barre move is probably a plank. I always enjoy when it’s thrown in at the beginning and end of class because core work is my favorite (trying to hold onto my abs while I can).
Q: What results have you noticed after doing Barre consistently?
Angie: I noticed my arms first, toned and not as flabby
Allison: I usually get to come to barre 3-4 times a week and I have noticed that I have built more muscle and all-around my body seems more toned.
Have you experienced any benefits from Barre that have affected you not just physically, but mentally, too?
Angie: The positive endorphins kept bringing me back to class every day. I had found my 23-year-old son John dead in his room in 2016 from an overdose and I was desperate for a mental and physical change. Barre and the encouragement from the BarreTenders helped save my life.
Allison: I enjoy coming to barre! Everyone has been extremely welcoming, the atmosphere is great, the music is awesome, and the all-around vibe is always positive. I leave barre feeling recharged and better about myself.
What keeps you motivated to continue coming to Barre?
Angie: The BarreTenders plus my daughter!
Allison: Before I started barre, I did not have a workout plan at all. I feel healthier and sleep better when I am consistently taking classes and I am even more motivated to try and hit 250 classes at some point next year.
Is there anything you would like to share with potential new clients about your experience at AUXO Fitness? Any helpful tips for those who are considering trying Barre, but are nervous?
Angie: Everyone can be intimidated but the BarreTenders encourage us to be our best and not compare ourselves to our neighbors in class. I’m never going to change my physical age, but I can change how I mentally feel about myself. Try Barre for a week, I promise you’ll want to keep coming back!
Allison: For anyone that may be nervous about trying barre, definitely don’t be. Everyone is nervous during the first class and I remember how my legs were shaking like crazy during Brinn’s class, but I am glad I came back! I never thought I’d be consistently coming to class every week, but 10 months later, I’m still here!
