Allison G. has taken almost 300 classes at AUXO Fitness since starting with us just a month after we opened, in June 2015. She often comes to Bring a Boy to Barre, Barre 2 Bar, and other AF events, and Allison has quickly become a HUGE part of the BFG family. In between rocking at work (she was recognized as ‘Advisor of the Year’ at UF, traveling every chance she gets, and other life obligations, she has consistently made her Barre workouts a priority and the staff was thrilled to nominate her as our August Barre Star!
1) Where are you from, and how long have you been in Gainesville?
I am a Gainesville native and have lived here my entire life. I love this town! As a double Gator graduate, I now work at the University of Florida as an academic advisor.
2) What’s your favorite Barre-themed shirt?
‘Sore Today, Strong Tomorrow’. It’s a positive reminder that I will continue to see results each time I push myself in the studio.
3) What do you do when you’re not at Barre?
I am an avid college football fan! I love the Gators and have a goal to see them play in every SEC stadium. I’ve gone to six stadiums (including UF) so far—so I’m almost halfway there!
4) Was your first Barre class what you expected?
It definitely was not what I expected. I was afraid to try a group fitness class format, and I didn’t think I was in good enough shape for Barre. I surprised myself! Even though the class was challenging, I was able to do every move that I learned. Because there was plenty of demonstration and modeling, I knew exactly how to complete each portion of the class.
5) Why did you decide to continue with AUXO Fitness after your free week by investing in an unlimited membership?
I hated going to the gym. I love interacting with other people, and going to the gym to walk on the treadmill/elliptical or lift weights was hard to do without peer motivation. The other ladies at Barre—staff and clients alike!—make me feel welcome and driven to keep coming back for more. The unlimited membership was a great deal for me because it increased the value of each class I took throughout the month.
6) What makes this workout different from other exercises you have experienced?
The enthusiasm from the instructors, the fast-paced music, and the constant encouragement makes the hour just fly by. You’re guaranteed to work out your entire body each class and no two classes are alike!
7) What is your favorite Barre move so far?
I’m a pretty big fan of the seated pretzel. When I first tried the move, I had to lean with both arms on the floor. Now I can do most of the series seated upright! The position challenges both my balance and my strength.
8) What results have you noticed after doing Barre consistently?
I’ve noticed an improvement in my stamina, my posture, and my outlook on working out. I have seen my muscles become more defined and my energy levels increase.
9) Have you experienced any benefits from Barre that have affected you not just physically, but mentally, too?
Absolutely! I always feel better after a Barre class. Whether it’s Barre, Body Flow, or Restorative Rolling, I am always happy I took time out of my day for myself. I have made lasting friendships through the studio—I even attended a fellow Barre Babe’s wedding because we met through class!—And for that I am extremely grateful.
10) What keeps you motivated to continue coming to Barre so consistently?
The support and encouragement from the entire Barre family. It’s the only workout with which I’ve stayed dedicated, and it’s had a wonderful impact on my life. Brinn and her staff make working out enjoyable. The challenges provide us with fun ways to reach our personal goals and always work to meet our best.
11) Is there anything you would like to share with potential new clients about your experience at AUXO Fitness?
AUXO Fitness is the best thing that’s happened on my fitness journey. I dreaded the idea of working out (let alone actually doing it), and coming to the studio changed that for me. I have just signed my contract for year #3 with the studio, and it’s the best investment I’ve made in myself. The clients and staff at AUXO truly make up a loving and supportive family; we celebrate everyone’s victories and motivate one another to keep coming back for more. No matter what day or time you come to work out, there will always be someone to help ensure you enjoy your hour workout. The statement “no experience required” is so true! If you see me in your first class, snag a spot next to me on the Barre. The first week is free—what have you got to lose?!
