Darbi has taken close to 600 classes at AUXO since starting with us in November 2015, and has been shining bright even on Zoom! Although she has a demanding career as an assistant research scientist, she makes exercise a priority and stays consistent in her Barre and BodyFlow routine. Our team is so thankful for Darbi’s continued support of AUXO and her encouragement towards the community! Learn more about our April Barre Star with this month’s Q&A:
Q: What do you love most about AUXO Fitness?
A: When you walk through the door (or connect via Zoom) at AUXO you’re greeted by name and the instructors and members genuinely care about your health, well-being, and accomplishments in and out of the studio. It’s such a supportive and caring environment!
Q: What advice would you give someone who struggles with consistency?
A: Setting a goal for the week and having an accountability buddy to check in with keeps me motivated and consistent! On Sundays, I review my calendar for the week ahead and try to prioritize AUXO time in my schedule. When I am not able to make it to an in person class, the virtual and video options have been a great alternative. Even on the busiest days and weeks, I know it will be time well spent and that I’ll have that post-workout boost of energy to look forward to!
Q: What goal(s) are you currently working toward?
A: Barre and BodyFlow are my favorite formats. The instructors are always introducing new moves to keep the classes challenging and to work different muscles. Balance and flexibility are areas where I always find opportunities to grow and set goals. The instructors are great about giving me feedback to enhance my form and cheering me on as I work towards accomplishing my goals.
Q: How do you stay motivated (especially during this difficult time) and with your busy work schedule?
A: As an assistant research scientist at UF during the pandemic, I spend quite a bit of time at the computer in virtual meetings with colleagues throughout the United States. When there is always more work to be done, it can be challenging to establish and maintain a healthy work-life balance. Having my AUXO community and classes to look forward to at the end of the day helps me to prioritize and set aside time for me. I’m motivated by the warm welcome, encouragement of the instructors, and sense of accomplishment I receive from each class I take.
Q: Which of AUXO’s ‘Community Culture’ Values most resonates with you?
A: AUXO Fitness is led by women who seek to build a supportive community atmosphere within the studio and to be a positive voice for change in the broader Gainesville community. I value the inclusive environment at AUXO. No matter where you are in your fitness (and life) journey the AUXO community helps you to feel welcome, supported, successful, and motivated to continue to grow!
